Crest Nicholson acquired the site on the outskirts of Ipswich with outline planning consent for 200 units. Our brief was to design a scheme consisting of one- to four-bedroom homes, for private purchase and social housing. In discussion with the planners we established that there was scope to increase density subject to the submission of a suitable high quality design.
The concept was for a series of squares, each with its own character, some formal and others informal, linked by a low speed road, and incorporating a pond, wildlife area and public open space. Our scheme evolved a simple but contemporary architectural style and created contained open space and a number of vistas. An application for 400 homes was submitted and approved and we provided our full planning service and our full working drawings package. Completed on a phased basis, the scheme is an example of a fresh form of development with a feeling of community at its heart.
